Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm thinking about signing up for the runna app.

Have used a Garmin plan recently for half marathon training and enjoyed it, but it seemed limited.

Wonder if anyone can share their experiences - anything positive or negative.

I'm currently using it for Ultra training. So far so good. I take some of the recommended paces with a pinch of salt and the predicted race times with a bucket of salt. 😆

I think you probably get a better balanced plan if you select to do at least 5 runs a week, from what I've seen people saying. I have read a few criticisms (too intense, too much speedwork) and can see where they are coming from but I'm finding it working very well for me overall, so far.

If you are comparing it to getting a personal coach then obviously the coach is better. If you are comparing to a paper plan from a book or magazine or just making it up as you go, I think Runna is worth it... obviously depending on how competent you are at self-coaching... just approach it with some self-understanding. I was prepared to skip the more intense sessions and do an easy run instead if I was getting tired... I haven't needed to yet. I've rejected a couple of pace increases on my speed sessions and completely ignore the maximum pace and estimated time for easy runs (I go a LOT slower than that on my easy runs!). It has an algorithm that does paces I think so its always going to be averages and not a perfect fit. And it gives you a cheery little AI written feedback on each run if you ask for it. Totally generic and kind of meaningless but I enjoy them and find them encouraging. When I've had a question I was able to message them and message back and forth with a real person.

I also do two strength sessions, a pilates and a mobility session a week through the app and that has been hugely helpful for me.

If you would like to look at my training log, drop me a fmail.

That's brilliant, thank you. I run 5 times a week and have done for ages so that should work well for me. Yeah, I'll drop you a fmail, thanks so much.

I tried it. Quite good but not sure it’s worth the money especially as a book like for example Faster Road running(5k to half marathon)or 80/20 (5k to marathon) is a fraction of the price. The strength training etc you can find on you tube. The fact you can get alerts etc is good but you can use the training plan page on fetch in the same way and many of the plans from the popular books etc are on here. You can move the workouts around on here just like on runna.
