Last week, Greppers and I were having one of our regular food chats on What Is App. Lamb was the subject, specifically, how difficult it was to find a cut suitable for making kebabs with decent size chunks. This conversation was fresh in mind when we went food shopping, Asda this week (because they have wheel chairs for customer use - a story for another thread).
They had leg of lamb on special offer, well, half legs. I say half legs, but they looked tiny. More like lamb shanks. Ooooo lamb shanks. Couldn't remember the last time we had lamb shanks. It is a cut that used to be cheap, then got hijacked by celebrity chefs. Became trendy and the price shot up. And they got smaller and smaller and smaller. The shanks, sorry, half legs, looked a decent size so I got 3 for Saturday's tea.
The plan was to slow cook them and serve with a nice buttery mash. I started to suspect the "shanks" were a bit bigger than I thought in the shop. This was confirmed when I couldn't get 3 into the casserole. Had to use my biggest pyrex roaster, and cover with foil. It worked ok. They were very tasty. A touch large, but very tasty.

That looks ace
I slow cooked shin beef, onions, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes and broccoli in beef stock and a bottle of Hobgoblin beer overnight Saturday. It didn't look much more than amorphous brown sludge but it tasted great. And, we only ate half so more tonight. I'll try a photo if I remember

Slow cooking for 24 hour meant it dissolved. If you’re asking what it is it’s a vegetable

Fair enough. I normally only cook broccoli for a few minutes

Stef asked me to put it in. It'd been better cooked separately

Not unlike scouse in appearance, although there's no set recipe that I've ever found
