Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Philps are pretty controversial locally. Especially after they had a Rishi Sunak photo shoot there. (In which he proved he doesn't know how to eat a pasty.)

Indeed. But I don't think they arranged the photoshoot, as in invited him there. Certainly took some stick and eventually deleted their posts about it.

I'm wondering if it's possible to edit the spelling in the thread title. I do like a pasty. I also like a pastie (or two) as well:

Philps of Hayle. I was weaned onto these. Very palatable.

My nephew was in Hayle yesterday. Don't know if he tried a Philps pasty, but he sent me a picture of a pint of Proper Job.

I've always quite enjoyed a Philps... but they're not in my personal top three. My eldest swears by Barnecutt's, but I've yet to try one.

Chough is my go to pasty. But did enjoy watching these being made in Tintagel last year.

Pengenna Pasties. They were nice, straight out of the oven.

But they crimp along the top. Round here that's a hanging offence.

Barnecutt's are good, I had those as well as Chough's. Had one of the worst pasties I've ever had in a cafe in Tintagel. I've had better from a van. (The ones from the van at the GSR food village are good, as is their coffee. I've made it a tradition.)

Cornish Oven, recently opened in Hayle. Good heft to it and plenty of onion, which I like. Perhaps slightly underseasoned, could have used a little more pepper. But they're only 5 minutes from Muttley Mansions so it seems rude not to, especially after a long Sunday morning plod.

An energetic 10k yesterday evening, after which it was a bit late in the day to eat anything substantial. Consequently had the raging munchies this morning. Good job Philps is within walking distance of Muttley Mansions. Steak and cheese, flaky pastry. Nicely seasoned, just the job.
