Yes - he was a beautiful Maine Coon (not pedigree though) and they are such affectionate cats with personality. He was diabetic and on insulin, but still lively and generally OK, if starting to slow down a bit. It was all very sudden (possibly a stroke or some other major brain event), so we were in the vets quickly and the decision we needed to take was obvious. To be honest, I'd rather that than a slow decline due to kidneys or something where the decision on when to let them go becomes harder. I'd hoped he might just pass away peacefully whilst asleep in the garden but it was not to be. RIP Mork (..he came with that name and it stuck..)

Awww MH, I feel for you. We have two elderly Maine Coons (had three but said goodbye to one several months ago) and they are the soppiest, most affectionate cats I've ever met.

RIP Mork indeed. Maine Coons are lovely cats.
I'd dread to have to make the decision to have my animals put down but suffering a slow, painful decline is not an option in my view. In fact, I wished it were easier for us humans to make the decision to be put down.

We think our Tizzifer is half Maine Coon and half dog. He's very fluffy and not particularly bright, but ferociously affectionate.

Lasya is incredibly affectionate too. So much so that when I come home after work and feed her her evening meal, she has no interest in her food, she wants ME
Incredibly rewarding.
The little thing has been asleep on my lap more or less all afternoon, apart from when I went and did a brief stint of gardening. She spends a lot of her time on my lap when I am home, when she isn't running around or playing.

Lasya is a Burmilla by the way, a cross between a Burmese and Chinchilla Persian. They are well known to be affectionate cats and very talkative too!

That's horrible, MH. RIP Mork and I hope you feel better soon.
I currently live with 2 cats as well as the dog. Minnie (short for Minerva McGonegall Hermione Fizziepops- the children were little and wanted their choice of names!) who is rather elderly and a bit batty. She came from the RSPCA in Halifax. Sherlock is a girl cat and strictly speaking belongs to my son as he chose her for his 16th birthday present (I know, weird but he desperately wanted a black kitten called Sherlock). She is black and came from Barnsley Animal Rescue, who I can't recommend highly enough. Sherlock was a feral kitten and my son endured 3 months of sharing his bedroom with her and taming her.

We had a little Chinchilla Persian who came to us as a stray (we assume she was dumped after her breeding years were past). We let her health decline just a little too long before having her put to sleep. I regret that, but found it impossible to take her on a one-way trip to the vet until I was sure she was actually suffering.

Yes, I would do the same I think. It isn't always that easy to see how a pet is suffering. They generally tend to put a brave face on for their owners.
