I love it too Grid, didn't do it last yr but have done several before. It's so well organised they are victims of their own success it filling so fast, esp as so few races / HMs in Dec. are u doing it this yr?

Sadly not - I only get to run an hour or two a week if I'm lucky, so I can't really get myself in decent enough shape to tackle a HM at the moment. I'd love to do it again next year though. Quite agree about the organisation - it was excellent. And a selection of complementary hot soups at the finish... fantastic!

Yes it's "well organised", but is it really so much better than other races that take a normal amount of time to fill up? Events like Belvoir Half, Wilne 10k, probably the Long Eaton 5 although I've never run it... I could go on.

The annual circus of having to enter within 12 hours of the entry system opening seems completely unnecessary - it's the sort of mentality that leads to queues outside petrol stations.

It is odd. I do like the race though. I've been a participant three times so far - 2009, 2011 and 2012. I've got my place for this year too. :)

Carlos, there are equally well organised races, yes. But this one is extra-popular for several reasons that I can see - and unfortunately it does create some panic-buying mentality in terms of entry. It's early December when there are less races around, people like the idea of another HM to round the year off when they have done or have planned others for the autumn. And it's festive / Christmassy which is always good. I find the rush to enter as frustrating as anybody - I had to diarise it or I'd have missed out. But I felt it was worth the effort.

I did it in 2004 and then 2010, 2011 and now 2013 :-). My Dad has always done it with me too and was telling me that way back when he used to sometimes turn up and enter on the day!!

Looking fwd to it already :-)
