We have a fantastic Oxfam bookshop in Bristol. I've got some lovely hardbacks there for presents. They get quite a few quirky items too.

I've got some friends who like my home-made iron tonic (inc red wine and apricots) so I give that in wine bottles. Also home-made kimchi and fire vinegar.

I also make 2 types of chilli sauce and give those as prezzies in food jars. I've let my friends know I'm plastic-free so I hope they'll remember.

I have gifted experiences in the past but now my nephews are teenagers and don’t wanna hang on a rock or go Kayaking or camping with me.... They have been sucked into the internet, talking to their friends. Only want to play air Hockey and football. So now wondering what other zero waste experience I can take them to

Some information about fast fashion as a baseline to why leaning towards a zero waste lifestyle is important. Watch this over lunch or dinner:

I've always bought clothes with a view to them lasting a long time, not being trendy...so I'd rather pay a bit more for something classic and that will last 20 years, rather than being stuck with something that's out of season very quickly.

The great thing about the UK is there are an abundance of charity shops + online preloved shops if wanted any change over of clothes. My work clothes have been mainly handed down to me from my mother's era..... so sometimes am in fashion ;)

Sustainability:
----------------
A growing "want" (consumption) has an impact on our world's resources. Historically we have gone through periods of frugality & eco-consciousness and always returned to the same apathy & couldn't give a damn about the environment we live in.

A linear economy means products head for the landfill. As landfills fill quickly, incinerators are now being put into place in the UK. Recycling is a broken system due to economics and incineration is simply the destruction of our resources.

The best would be for a circular economy and ways to close the loop.

Zero wasters care about their impact. On our journey to a zero waste lifestyle what are we willing to compromise on?

Resources for reducing landfill waste:

Freecycle: freecycle.org

or sell it on Ebay, car boot
Wrap: wrap.org.uk

How Stuff Works: home.howstuffworks.com

Food waste: consider composting. For cooked food waste have a look at Bokashi (FYI Anaerobic composting: http://www.alternative-energy-tutorials.com/aerobic-composting/anaerobic-composting.html)
