I've looked at a few random streetview locations on the A701. I don't know how much Carla will be taking in the scenery, but this section must be something of a tonic after those days on English A roads. Unless the weather is against her, of course.

A fraction under 64 miles yesterday in the regulation 17 hours, which takes her average speed down from approx 4mph to 3.75mph over the course of a day.
If 70 is the "standard", that would create a backlog of about 6 miles a day (or 8 miles a day if her 72-mile days from early on was the target). So, as ff suggests on the previous page, it's starting to look as if she may need to go into the thirteenth day.

So far today it looks like she has done half of Day 8 in 9 hours. With 5 hours until 10pm it looks like the deficit will be around 15 miles, may be a little bit more if she slows in the last 3-4 hours like last night. With three more "full" days in the plan it's looking like the deficit after Day 11 will be at least 25 miles, probably more like 30. Everything is pointing towards that 13th day, unless she goes all in on the 12th day and just keeps going to the end in one push on the basis that recovery isn't an issue at that point.

If the deficit is 30 at start of day 12, and there's 41 planned for day 12, then that would be 71 to do on day 12.
If she's still managing 60-65 per day by that stage, then no point in stopping at 10pm with just about 10 miles left, surely you'd just grind it out until 1am or whenever - althoiugh finishing before 5am would surely be the main target to get under 12 days, so maybe stop at 10pm for an hour or so and re-start ?

Has she gone "wrong", or the tracker glitching or the route drawn wrong? she seems to be heading up the 701 towards Edinburgh?

Yes, she needs to turn left at one of the next 2 junctions to get to West Linton, otherwise she misses the drove road thru the Pentland Hills, and it's a long way around them by road, having to go almost in to Edinburgh

Her tracker has just gone to the sleep symbol, so maybe a planned break at a layby they identified, and not that much further if they take next left ??

Actually, checked it on an OS map, and the red line that she is not following is not a road, just a track, so motor support wouldn't have been able to follow that bit. If she takes the next left on to the minor road she'll be heading on road to W Linton

ah, that makes sense - although I would have thought a break from the A roads would have been nice!
