And there is a VO2 max in the Garmin widget store I see which I have just downloaded for the Vivoactive too, which seems like it might work on similar lines.

Cool found it now on Garmin Connect web site Weird mine moved up to 54 on Friday and back down to 53 on Sunday (and I'd say I noticed a slight difference, very easy to run 8.10 pace at 80% Max HR, not possible on Sunday, it sent it to 80.5%) |

I find it goes up if I do a hard speed session and more generally over time when I do more tempo type stuff. Also when I was marathon training for Chester last year it was really high (for me) on the Saturday when I ran quite a fast parkrun (course PB) - it went down two notches the very next day on my LSR - went to the lake district the Sat afternoon and was doing a long run with a huge amount of climb. It went back to normality when I got on the flat. |

Garmin Reports shows "page no longer exists" on web site and no vo2 max option either. Looks like they've completely removed it :-(.

Ok - last 2 runs with HRM (both about 45 mins), no sign of Vo2 max, yet plenty of heart rate data. Any idea what gives?

I've had no updates for quite a few weeks. Wasn't sure if it was dodgy data or that they'd turned off the updates for watches that aren't supposed to support it. I'm still happily sitting at 58...

Gonna try this out: apps.garmin.com for the Vivoactive and several others, it might help.

The app estimator isn't great, fluctuates too much and I suspect is wildly optimistic. Also it takes up another screen and doesn't plot the result on the graphs either, so next to useless. Keep on checking back on the reports section in vague hope, but no it still isn't there and I suspect won't ever be again. I also found Larkim's query on the Garmin forums which prompted this very terse reply: "This device does not support VO2 Max. Closing this thread." In other words, before everyone else jumps on it and goes Garmin you prats what are you doing removing functionality. I suppose they classify it as something you should pay £300 plus for, which then makes you think, well I might as well go back to the labs and pay for an accurate bloody test. If there was an alternative to Garmin I'd use it. |
