Think there are quite a few races where accommodation is booked up way before the event even opens. Sure some people probably had things booked the same day as this year's race!
As for places to stay, the PI in Milngavie and the one 200m away behind the pub used for registration are handy for the start. The "By The Way" camp site at Tyndrum is popular (right at the finish) but has probably sold out by now There was an official hotel in Glasgow with a bus to the start provided. Not sure what the situation was if you wanted to get back.
At the end of the day, it depends on how far you're travelling to get there, if you've anyone with you who can drive to the finish to give you a lift somewhere, or how easy it is to get to the start / from the finish. Some people stayed at random Glasgow hotels and got taxis the 6 miles or so to Milngavie, some camped, some drove from home or further afield etc.

Last time i did it i had the GF drive me in from East Kilbride which was about 30mins but will probably look for somewhere closer this time around. I didn't stay afterwards as i had a 40th to attend on the sat night so had to leave soon after i finished but remember most of Tyndrum being booked up for the saturday night.

Hmm. Might end up either driving through from Edinburgh, leaving the car in Milngavie and getting bus back from finish. This is when a camper van would be handy.

Sorry Lil, what I meant was book it for the three nights but cancel some of the nights later (it's a fully flexible booking that you pay for on check-in). Though if it's your birthday, maybe you should plan on staying in Tyndrum for the ceilidh?

Duchess - right! I see what you mean now!
I don't know how anyone can have any energy left for the ceilidh? I did the Pennine 39 last Saturday and couldn't even make it to the pub for a drink!

Duchess - I'm assuming there's baggage transport to the finish?

The ceilidh tent is about 20 yards from the finish line so you don't have to stagger far And yes, there is a baggage transport service to the finish (smallish bags and rucksacks only please, not giant trunks).

Is the By the Way the only place to stay in Tyndrum? I have emailed them to see if they have any availability.

Tyndrum Lodge Hotel and a few B&Bs. Sometimes Crianlarich is a better bet, it's about 4/5 miles south.
