elBee, by what I have seen of JB he has a sensible approach to training and is reaping the benefits - big time!

JB, you are on for a cracking first marathon time if you keep up the endurance training and I know you will. :-)

PF, good work, you will enjoy the running so much more when you can run much further without risk of injury.

Currently, I'm just jealous of the lot of you :-)

IanM,
Thanks for the encouragement.
I'm sure you'll be back on the road with (I hope) you trusty Garmin, very soon.

eL Bee!
Thanks as always!

IanM - You'll be back before you know it, probably running even better as you've had a decent rest and time for any little niggles to sort themselves out!!

IanM,
I'd have to agree, again, with eL Bee! - you probably could have done with a wee rest and I'm sure you'll come back much stronger as a result!

size10,
Helo again (serious thread this time?!)
After taking up running again I did most of my running on the treadmill.
I would personally go with what the HRM says rather than the treddy - I find running outdoors much different than running on a treadmill. Hopefully you will find, with time, that the pace on the treadmill @ say a 70%HR is quicker than it was, say, 2/3 months ago. (One of the beauties of keeping a log (FE?) - sad as many people think it may seem!)

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
