Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

just gone out and done10+ miles and tried going slow. ran on a hilly course at average 8:53m/m. Ive got to say im f**ked! Need to get a HRM to check out how im doing but i firmly believe i need to cut the speed and get the mileage up.

Skunk: If you can follow the plan you will fly. You should have a good bit of fitness from the Tri *spits* stuff. And I seem to remember you were a bit nippy on the wing at Shaw Cross.

P.E...
Boab as I understand (and I could be wrong here) the idea of the training is as you say base training (he goes further into his approaches on a letsrun I think of what to do once this intial phase is over). The idea being that there should be a good relationship between most of your times (indeed he does say you maybe be better at a certain distance). But with Joe he slowly uses the training to up his runs to 10 miles at 170 hr (somewhere between 88 and 89% of Joes HR max). Hadd see's this as Joe's desired Marathon HR. But he doesnt start running at that HR he starts the faster paced runs at 83% MHR until the pace is consistent you then up another level until the same happens. When Joe's pace at 88%MHR is steady he kinda suggests he is ready but then doesn't tell us how he got on! Maybe I shouldn't have called them marathon/tempo runs but my interpretation is that is basically what they are until I improve my HR to the next level, but yeah should have been clearer

powerrunning.com - This link kinda disproves some of his theroies

I think most schedules agree that running between 80-90% of MHR help with improvements (P&D for example) generally.

I think the only theory he has which could be classed as debatable is his sub lacate runs. As most others advice training at your latate threshold, but even then Lydiard advises running at more than one aerobic pace.

P.E I've read Powerrunning's opinions but they dont really prove that faster running has worked well for anyone at a top class level. Where as Hadds ideas are similar to Lydiard, who was very successful.
