Hello... was just wondering what runners in today's Great Scottish Run 10k & Half Marathon thought of the new routes...? I did the 10k... kinda unimpressed! Thought previous route was better, not so much of the 'out and back' bits and had more crowd/people support along the way. What do you think ..? :D

From the comfort of my sofa I thought the half looked like a great course - the part I did not like in the old course was Pollok park, Crossmyloof and the stretch skirting round the gorbals/ eglinton toll so running round the riverside museum and that long stretch along the broomielaw would suit me perfectly
The support will increase as people become more aware of the route - it should be easier as people can walk down from George Square onto the clyde-side so should be easier. There never was much support in the early miles along Paisley road west - usually got some crowds around the parks.

I prefer the new layout. I like getting a look at the people a minute or two ahead/ behind on the switchbacks and i was unimpressed with old route when i ran it last year. We definitely ran down fewer scuzzy back streets ......... and i think they've taken out a hill.

prefered the old route, running up a motorway to run round that museum was terrible, much better running through the parks, also the support was better through the housing schemes. And I was 8 minutes slower than last year, but that's probably becuase my training has been crap.

I liked the new course but that hill at 10 mile was a killer. I was going great to 8 mile then legs went so heavy. Never felt that before in my legs. Really really had to dig.....

Not a fan. First half felt like a bit of an 'out and back' on Paisley Road West (never a good thing) with an abysmal section along the Clydeside Expressway on the back half. Might be good for TV but not for the runners.
Having said all that, I thought the last 1 to 2 miles was a vast improvement on the previous course.

I didnt really like the new route much, or the old route for that matter....too much motorway running or really empty stretches in less salubrious areas.
I do agree about the last few miles, a long straight worked, I used to hate the enter glasgow green, run away from the finish and back along with a sharp bend bang on 13 miles
I also agree that mile 10 was hard, uphill, into wind and seeing those ahead really knocked the stuffing out of me and thats where I started to lose time.
I also quite liked the missing park with the heilan coos.....

The jury is still out from my side with regards to the 10k. I didnt like the last route either but this one, not sure. The bloody Broomilaw reminds me of GNR last mile - goes on forever!
