I am after some feedback from seasoned gf Fetchies. I have been really good in not eating gluten. I accidentally had some beginning of December and it really set me back. I have been feeling better, both gut wise and chronic joint pain/inflammation wise as well. Until a couple of weeks ago. I had coffee with Oatly Barista oat milk and things played up a bit. Sinds then, I have had increasing issues and my bowels feel like I am back on gluten yet, I haven't had any? I bought a gf pizza which caused issues and a gf fishcake. So practically, I am noticing that supposedly gluten free food stuffs seem to be causing issues. Anyone else had these problems?
I know that some people react to other proteins in gf grains. I had hoped I wasn't one of them, but it seems I am

Have you ever had a proper intolerance test Hann? That might give you some substantive answers.

NE, no. I was told I had to go back on gluten for at least 6 weeks before testing and I could not face it. I had been on a restricted gluten for years, and been gluten free for something like 4 weeks and starting to feel much better. I suppose only way to find out is exclude all grains, then re-introduce one by one to see if I respond.

Oatly barista is low gluten not gluten free. Not many oat milks are made with gluten free (or non contaminated oats).
I wondered about oats - my dietician said I could try to exclude and reintroduce. In the end I kept eating them and I think it’s ok.
One thing I have noticed though is that stress is a big factor that interacts with other things. It can for me exacerbate any irritable digestive issue, even with foods that are normally ok.

Pen, thank you. I read up on oatly barista. I normally never have it as it is full of other irritants and additives I should not have. I know oats is largely contaminated so I have organic gf oats. I have stopped taking milk in my coffee when out and about. I make my own nut milk with organic al.onds or hazel nuts.

I think stress has been an issue the last couple of weeks. Definitely a contributing factor.

Stress probably isn't helping - I get far more sensitive to everything if I'm stressed. I'm coeliac, and react badly to any oats (even the gf ones), they have a protein avenin which is similar to gluten. Something like 20% of coeliacs can't stomach oats. I miss oaty porridge. But I make an ok one with buckwheat, and usually cook in some fruit at the same time. It does the job.
Hopefully Hanneke its just stress and the addititives and non-gf ness of Oatly barista that have hit you.

Thanks GOTD! Yes, I hope so too! I had never noticed a sensitivity to oats, so hopefully it was just Oatly 🤞 Also, a nutritionist friend said it was early days. I need to give it at least six months for things to settle and initially you might get more sensitive before things level up.

A few of the oat drinks are certified gluten free, Califia is one such if you are OK with sunflower oil. No rapeseed in it.
