If you see Hazel (poss only at Falkirk just now?) let us know if you hear where she's got to? Troon Tortoises - yellow vest usually, though she may be in RNIB colours? Thanks! :-)G

I made it all the way round G>E- just!. I would have quit at 40 miles, but the check point people were so cheery and encouraging that I didn't feel I could let them down- managed to pick it up to the next CP at Ratho, then really struggling to run- "death marched" it in from 50 miles onwards with someone who I didn't even get his name- but he'd been vomiting for miles, so was a bit lacking in energy- I used him as a human shield against the neds in the arse- end of Edinburgh- we managed to get across the line in about 11:45- saw a handful come in after me. Main thing today- I have a VERY sore tongue- it is dificult to eat solids.....now why would that be?

Well done tricia. 55 miles is always going to be a huge achievement. Particularly tough at the longer end too - the neds come out as the sun starts going down. Didn't it get cold quickly too, at the end there?

Wee copy of a FB post I put up about Hazel, she really was amazing. Hope yous don't mind.

Had the great privilege to get to run the last few miles with Hazel McFarlane on her longest ultra-marathon (yet! I'm sure there will be more!), as she completed the Glasgow to Edinburgh Double Marathon, a 55 mile route along the canals. I was invited to join as guide runner to Ken Reid who was in turn running to support Hazel.

Happy to report that she finished strongly (not just because of our fantastic chat and repartee of course, but down to her own fitness and dedication. Ahem!) in around 11 hours (official times not yet out). If you can find a fiver to add to the pot, I'm sure it would be much appreciated. Very well done Hazel and all her supporters. :-)G

I can second the above comments about Hazel- she was impossible for me to keep up with after about 40 miles, but in the first part of the race I ran a little way close by her-the extra energy and concentration needed to do that without seeing where you are putting your feet must be massive (I found the short stretch of dark tunnel bad enough- but it brought home to me what she must deal with every day). Well done to all her guides too!
