Paul - yes, you have confirmed a concern I have that if the event is to [continue to] attract regular marathon runners in the future then it needs to have a bit of spit and polish applied to it. I intend to provide some feedback. BLB - it wasn't the same! Where were you? |

I didn't want much but it would have been nice to have had - replies to the e-mails in advance of the event - having entered, paid and confirmed, it would have been nice to have been expected at 'registration' - a proper start - course lengths to be sorted out - times and results to be published Pretty much all the basic stuff that any marathon provides. All for the cause but I won't be back in future and neither could I recommend it to other runners. |

Any concerns mentioned here have been addressed as best as we can. The Forces March is NOT a marathon or a collection of marathons. It is simply split over 5 stages which average 26+ miles each. As it is a charity event, we do not want to spend lots of money on elaborate starts and timing systems. All results concerns were passed to the timing company but we were informed that the info they published was what their chips had recorded. Needless to say, timing has been an issue and we hope we have resolved it for next year and beyond. The march has only been held twice and to perfect a huge event like that will not happen overnight but we have had mostly VERY positive feedabck and many people returned for 2011 and are doing so again for 2012. Lots of improvements have been made for check-in/registration as well as a much greater focus on communication with participants in the build-up to the event. We have also put a lot of work into improving the start and finish each day. We have also made several changes to the route to improve the few areas that weren't as safe as they could be. We will also have some very special stops points during the march. The total distance is now 132.2 miles and each stage averages 26.4. The longest is 29.1, the shortest is 24.5. It promises to be an excellent event next year and we are working very hard to give all the participants a great adventure. I hope you will join us! www.forcesmarch.org.uk |

The shortest stage for 2012 is 24.5 miles Paul. No guarantees of mileage are given as there are always discrepencies depending on what equipment is used. 5 marathons in 5 days is a tag line that was used for last year. Each stage was measured at over 26.2 miles. The event does not promise 'at least a marathon a day'. |

We always listen to feedback from participants and support crews and the general feedback is that signage at the end of day 2 is hard to follow as the route is so tight and twisting so we simplified it and many people highlighted that the A39 is just to hectic with lorries and buses so for everyone's safety we have diverted the route away from it. Safety first! It's still challenging but even more beautiful and rural. You'll LOVE what we've added as well. Some of the water points are in the most amazing places! |
