I've had good results with PF, using soft tissue work, ultrasound, stretching and exercises so don't despair IF it is that. And remember that the worst cases are the ones that make it on to Internet forums and that goes for any injury and illness.
Good luck with the Physio.
Ian...just being honest, your anatomy knowledge is great.

I got Mr H to have a good go at my feet last night (that's not meant to be rude...). It feels a lot better today - still sore but I'm walking without the comedy limp. Fingers crossed that a session with the physio tomorrow will sort out it

Susie, good to see some improvement. After the physio it'lll probably mean just a bit of dedication from you to keep on with the treatments specified. I'm thinking these will be very similar if not the same o what Katie describes. Keep at it and don't lose heart. Then when you are feeling much better maybe have a look at what might have caused it in the first place and address that so you don't get a recurrence.
Kaitie, thanks, when I get a problem to solve I tend to learn as much as I can about it and go from there. I've had PF since November after I had quite a bad fall injuring my knee. Obviously I kept running on it and I ended up with foot pain. Took me a long time to find out what was wrong and how to fix it but I'm getting very positive results and haven't had to stop running altogether.
I do find it all quite fascinating actually though - injury, the psychology, physiology and how they all work together or otherwise.

Fingers crossed for your physio appointment Susie.
Ian, you have pretty much explained my experience of PF, down to the tightness in the tibialis posterior which is very hard to stretch or massage out by yourself. I've never had tight calves until I got this injury, but now I realise the tightness is at a deeper level.
I'm also learning that although strong, my glutes appear to be lazy, so as part of my warm up, I'm trying to get them fired up to run with knee lifts and heel kicks.

Well I've been to see the physio and the answer is... she doesn't know. She has managed to rule out PF, broken bones, muscular problems and nerve problems and although my calf muscles are a little tight, she doesn't think this has caused this particular problem. She's given me calf exercises to do and she said not to run on my foot till the pain has gone away, and then when I start again, stop if the pain returns. I feel a bit flat really. I'm pleased she's ruled out anything particularly serious but I would have liked a definite answer!

I get a lot of foot pain, it is not as bad as when I had PF. The one thing that works for me is calf stretches.

Well I am guilty of neglecting to stretch my calf muscles. So I'll add them to my routine and see whether I get an improvement

I've had PF in the past and it helped to do calf stretches, standing on the edge of the stairs and gently lower yourself down and stretch your calves for 30 secs. I've stopped crossing my legs completely as this also caused tight calves. Rest up and it will go quickly (which I wish I had done rather than run though the pain)

Susie, I'd still massage the feet as I described if I were you. It's good foot maintenance practice if nothing else. Calves and soles of feet, work out all knots, make them relax. I do this every day now without fail and I'm seeing lots of improvement.

Incidentally I find it amusng that she appears to have "ruled out" basically anything and everything. If there is pain then there must be something wrong in tissue, bone or nerve somewhere unless of course she thinks you are imagining it?
Oh and BTW a tight calf is exactly what would cause that IMHO.
