Something else I saw from the train and when nearly home - a busy outdoor sports complex - court football, basketball, tennis all in full swing. Beside all that a football pitch with many pigeons and about 10 Canada geese pecking away at some kind of larvae in the grass.

My roof is full of bats again. They seem to have found a new spot and are making a terrific racket.
I saw a couple of swifts from home today, and we have one pair of swallows. Still haven't seen a House Martin, even in the obvious places in the lake district (although I haven't checked the best spot; Rheged petrol station).
Two or 3 cuckoos near Keswick yesterday, but none at home.

Black Headed Gulls hawking for Mayflies along the river this evening. I see this every year, but it always looks very odd.

Noisy here this morning. The first broods of young starlings being shown where the bird feeders are.
Seem to remember posting that last year, wonder if I can find it to compare dates?

Found it, 23rd May last year
Juvenile starling central here - their parents have shown them where my feeders are. Noisiest week of the year until they all drift back to the field edges

Saw my first swifts of the year yesterday screaming over the house. Lovely.

Not heard a cuckoo yet this year (although as mentioned a few days ago, I'm pretty sure I saw one).
Main delight recently was watching a yellowhammer singing its heart out on the top of a bush at the coast, beautifully caught in the afternoon sun. Back home, swifts screeching low over the garden just now.

A couple of lovely stonechats tonight, and finally one House Martin.
Curlew, Redshank, Oyks, Lapwing and Snipe in the fields below the moor.

Parties of swifts back screaming outside work (none noticed at home yet), even if only 3 today. Think the record I saw last year was 9.
Don't know why, but I was surprised to hear and see them over the Old Man of Coniston on Saturday afternoon.
