um
Wandering along the middle of the cornish lane (ie my wing mirrors almost scraping the hedge each side), a peacock. Nonchalant and owning the road! I had to wait for him to choose his exit.

Ha, got caught out by the same thing yesterday, DT! Thought I heard swift screech but could see no swifts in the sky, but there were starlings in the tree above me.

My garden is full of them. My lawn has lots of cuckoo flower / lady's smock, so the males are all hanging out on that. Singing Blackcap making itself visible too. And hordes of Sand Martins. |

No sightings of the peacock today, although we walked that stretch if road twice. There were chickens though. Does anyone know what this is for? On the driveway to the holiday house, near Gillan Creek (between Helford & The Lizard). Only 10 - 12 ft up, not high in the tree. Bigger than I've used in my garden before! I haven't seen anything using it yet. Owl? Buzzard? |

Barn Owl, I believe. The sort of thing an ecological consultant might spec to act as planning permission mitigation when an existing site in a barn is being destroyed (conversions, demolition).

Thanks, yes we're in an old farmhouse & the barn next door has also been converted to a house, so I guess that would fit. What time do I need to keep a watch? Dusk? Or any earlier? Still bright daylight until 8 or 9 here. |
