Smashing photo, Scribbler!

Nothing rare at the weekend, but main highlights were big flock of linnets wheeling around, and another field completely covered in redwings and fieldfares.

Similar here J2R and also a lot of goldfinch and LTTs.

Local farmer has been trimming some hedges in order to be able to dredge out a couple of ditches, I was a bit cross until I saw how they were making good gaps in the hedge the other side of the ditch with the cut branches and also had a trailer of saplings ready to go in once the grounds thaws out a bit.
I then saw him/one of his lads on a quad bike spreadng birdseed along one of the tracks

I guess trimming might be essential at this time of year Rosehip--prior to the breeding season. Good farmer chucking bird seed out, that has to be a rarity!
Five mile trail route this morning turned up nothing except what I'd typically expect in my own garden although a Greenfinch singing was a surprise.

Spotted a jackdaw collecting nesting material in my front garden. Spring is not far away.

One of the landowners s a very good sort - he grows seeds plants on a few rough corners - full of sunflowers and flax and goodness knows what else - should have seen the nuber of mippits there in the autumn,

(they also have pheasants and partridge and have shoots too)

Red Squirrel
Redwings in local urban park wooded bit. Doing that on-the-ground feeding thing and not too worried about the odd person walking though. Lovely! I was so close I could see the stripe by the eye and the red patch. Made my day.

Redwings were a bird I remember getting very excited about as a boy, and they can still make my day now. I see hugely more of them now than when I was a youngster, but I suspect that's nothing to do with actual numbers, more that I'm just much better at spotting them now.
