steve45, one of my recent delights has been watching a GSW on the peanuts as I have my breakfast. There most mornings. We've had them in the past but only sporadically, but not that regularly until now.

Fat pigeon in the garden again today. Pied wagtail on my walk. There was much excitement at a robin on the bird feeder last week.

Flock of Siskin and a single Hawfinch in Sherwood Forest today, always a sign of the changing seasons. Big spot though was an Otter swimming across a lake whilst looking at 8 very smart Goosanders. Also found a Marsh Tit visiting a feed station close to the car park at the end of the walk, conveniently it was calling quite clearly thus saving a long Marsh or Willow debate.

We've had fairly thick fog for at least the last 48 hours. I've seen somewhat bedraggled sparrows on the feeder one green woody on my run this morning and a couple of male pheasants strolling along the back lane - and that's about it. Very quiet.

Great obs there flyingfinn. You're lucky J2R having GSPecker regularly-- I've only had one in my garden nine times in the last ten years. Fat pigeons can be something if a nuisance in my garden scribbler, but always nice to have a Robin .

We had a Goldfinch fly into the glass of our French Window yesterday. It lay stunned on the decking for five to ten minutes. We thought that it had a broken wing too, but it suddenly took off and flew into a neighbours tree.
Then this morning, at about the same time of day, a Sparrowhawk landed in the same tree and sat there for five minutes.
Not really a close call, but I wonder !

flyingfinn, a hawfinch is a rather special spot, I would say! I was so excited when I saw my first ever hawfinch during that irruption a couple of years ago.

I was spoilt during that irruption J2R, we had a sizeable flock in a churchyard about 5 miles away that stayed for 2-3 months. Yesterday's was spotted at a location well known for them but we only saw the one and then for not very long. So far this year apart from a small group in a village on the Derbys/Notts border there only seem to have been intermittent sightings round here.

I had a couple of frustrating near misses during that irruption, but ended up spotting 3 or 4 a few miles from home in a place they had been reported on https://twitter.com/HawfinchesUK. They're reasonably often reported at Lynford Arboretum in Thetford Forest, but when I was there a few weeks ago the birds that were there had just been scared off by a buzzard.
How are we doing for waxwings? Good year, bad year? I haven't been following.
