Very quiet describes here too. Odd singing thrush and wren. Even the chiffchaff are silent now

When my brother was hear from Australia the other week he said how much he was enjoying hearing the birds twittering away in the mornings.
I'm sure I've heard chiffchaffs very recently - unless it was the ones that I heard in Austria.

I've heard cuckoos, especially since doing plenty of hill walking, but I've never seen one.

Chiff chaff still singing here (and they seem to have learnt the words now).
Heard cuckoos this year on Loughrigg but not seen any

The house martin nestlings along our side passage are bloomin' noisy (and messy!), definitely not quiet here! They must be due to fledge soon...

I was surprised to hear a chiffchaff yesterday. had about a dozen sparrows on the feeders this morning. Then a couple of juvenile starling turned up and ate or spilled just about everything - watched by three or four goldfinch who sat in the plum tree waiting their turn

Fragile Do Not Bend
Goldcrest (or good rest as autocorrect wanted it to be) in the garden, so I wasn’t imagining seeing one a couple of year short ago.
Spotted flycatchers appear to have fledged, there is at least one (can’t tell if adult or juvenile) still using the garden as a hunting ground.
