Fantastic DT, we went to Babbacombe Downs this week, lovely views all the way out to Dorset. Very jealous, beautiful coastal walk.

21 mile up and down the River Otter in Devon
Sadly no beaver sightings but lots of birds seen or heard including reed bunting, little egret, greenfinch, buzzard, kestrel, dipper, goosander, chiffchaff, blackcap, pied wagtail, cormorant, wren, goldfinch, blackbird

Wonderful water vole day today! I mentioned I'd seen one, on my regular running route. Well, today I stopped again at the spot where I'd seen one, and to my delight, immediately spotted one on the bank, right in front of me, no more than a metre away. As I watched, another came along, climbed out of the river towards its mate, and immediately disappeared into what was clearly its burrow! A woman with a dog happened by and was interested, and we ended up watching the two water voles going backwards and forwards for 10 minutes, seemingly completely unbothered by us or the dog. And as we stood there, a grasshopper warbler started singing nearby. Bliss!

We saw a handsome male stonechat, a redshank and loads of linnet on yesterday’s walk. Sadly we didn’t manage Dartford Warbler

DWs are mythical birds. Spent so many hours wandering around gorse-infested heathland trying to find them and never have.

Saw my first DW last year, on Dunwich Heath in Suffolk, after many similar hours wandering around gorse-infested heaths. Fortunately, I got a wonderful view of 3 or 4 of them, displaying well just a short distance away, and showing up nicely in the bins.

Out for a late run on the High Peak Trail this evening and saw my first Little Owl round here for a long while. 15 years ago they were quite common locally and a regular sighting on runs over the fields but numbers have crashed in more recent times. That, a superb sunset/sky and not a soul to be seen made it a very pleasant outing
Also spotted my first Ring Ouzel of the year yesterday as I drove over the Cat and Fiddle, sat high on a roadside rock.
