Yes Fenners quite unbelievable how many times he has rescued us from No.8, especially as we seem to have a line up with 3 walking wickets/night watchmen up the top of the order....

Am I correct in that this is the first Day 5 of the tests this Summer?

I'd quite like to see the Windies bat out a draw today; that first innings showed we have massive problems at the top of the order; escaping with a win may see the selectors quaff another G&T and pat themselves on the back for being great when they should be burning the midnight oil/watching every possible candidate in the hope of unearthing someone with the technique and temperament to fill those problem slots before we face a team that would not let us off the hook after a first innings like that.

Interesting game in Bangladesh, Aussies needing 265 to win, which would be the highest score of the game (only on day 3 at the moment.)

Aus 28-2 now. Perhaps England don't need those top order batsmen?

Morning Cerrers, morning everyone. Hmm, wouldn't it be great if the Aussies were to lose..? :)

Looks cloudy and dubious at Headingley and we have a new ball!

It really is disappointing that we can't find several top order batsmen hammering on the door of selection. The T20 competition in a block is great for T20, but it means there's no danger of anyone finding any FC form. Cook isn't quite the player that he was, Stoneman may make a Test opener in due course but he's too old to keep the place for too long, Westley looked better initially than he looks now, Malan has a couple of fifties and may eventually succeed. It's actually quite a worry; Hales is the name on everyone's lips; he's having a good season , but mostly against comedy D2 bowling.

Yep, listening to TMS yesterday they were talking about Hameed. He had the perfect game in India last winter to open with Cook then play the 'Cook' role once Chef had gone, but apparently has radically changed his game this year and keeps getting out chasing wide ones and balls he does not need to play at.

All the hallmarks of a coach trying to up his scoring rate; no idea whether these were County or International coaches, but they appear to have made a good player much worse by fiddling with a gameplan that was sound to start with. Faint echoes of the coaches trying to remodel Finn's action.....he hasn't recovered yet, and probably never will.

Malan grafted well yesterday; Westley by all accounts had a mental disintegration which is not a good sign and it would be insane if he still in the side at Lord's.

Warner dropped at slip by Bangladesh and is now making them pay with a string of boundaries.

Glorious bank holiday weather, a test match in the balance, but only 8000 people inside Headingley yesterday, even at pretty reduced ticket prices and they're at almost giveaway levels today. You'd have to go back a long time to find a rugby league match at the same venue with such a low crowd. Can certainly see why people are worried about the future of test cricket, because England still gets much better attendances for it than most other countries.

I doubt they will drop Westley for Lords. We are in big danger of becoming like the 90's side with chopping and changing all the time and players not given the opportunity to play their best cricket because they know one bad score will lead to talk they should be dropped. Just as players start getting used to Test Match cricket they are gone. Media and Supporters need to have a bit more patience with a few of these players.

I heard the TMS piece yesterday and Robson was talked up quite a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing him back at three (Cook and Stoneman to open and Root staying at four) when the axe does fall.

I *demand* they drop Westley 8. We need him back in Chelmsford.

You'll be getting a broken husk of a man judging by that last innings....

Eight is a reasonable score on the current Chelmsford track. We're looking like posting a first innings lead having scored 150-odd. #propercricket #ish
