Hello Fetchies! I've just entered for the Great Birmingham half on 19 October (can combine with a visit to family in Shropshire). Is anyone else doing this or run it in recent years? The hills on the profile looked a bit challenging - especially in the last couple of miles! I was thinking of trying to go sub-2 for this one but might have to scale back those ambitions
Cheers Geo

Did it last year. It is fairly undulating. It added on about 5 minutes for me (but I was still tired from a marathon 3 weeks before).
It's fun though. Interesting to see lots of different bits of Birmingham. The long drag near the end is more of a problem psychologically because it goes up, turns a corner, goes up again, turns a corner and continues up. Someone running near me turned the second corner and said 'oh for fuck's sake' and stopped. Get your head ready for it and you'll be fine

Done it for the last two years and it's a great event. The minor course change last year has made the last hill a bit easier, but this comes at a price as the easier first half now has a small hilly detour. Not planning on running this year as I'm running the Loch Ness Marathon 3 weeks earlier.

Thanks TR and David, that's all good to know. Sounds like some hill training would help me with Birmingham!

Geologyrocks38, try to leave a hill at the end of your long runs, it will give you the confidence for Birmingham.

It's meant to be a good one my brother enjoyed it last year.

Cheers David - I have to be a bit creative finding a hill in east London, but there's always Greenwich I suppose!

TR - sounds like that could have been me with the comment about the hill! I'm not running it this year (doing Cardiff half two weeks before), but I will be lurking in the Bournville area (half way) to offer words of support and encouragement to anyone who passes me.

Officially started training for this now! I'm going long and following a mara plan (with extra hills ;-)) that I hope will get me in at 2:00-2:05.
