Qualification to the knock-out requires out-scoring the wildcard. If the wildcard 'wins' a pool or dramatically over-performs it goes through to the knockouts, otherwise it is discarded.

OFAH did stray off piste into soap territory in later series, and it was a disaster after they got rich but it was a great sitcom IMO, quality of the supporting characters especially good. Not top 4/superdeath good, but worthier than the rest of the filth in that pool...
