I will never understand why they did the remake, rather than reshowing the original.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is a work of genius, but sitcom?

Not a silly question at all. It is entirely possible for nobody to be eliminated from the pool stage. Qualification to the knock-out requires out-scoring the wildcard.
If the wildcard 'wins' a pool or dramatically over-performs it goes through to the knockouts, otherwise it is discarded.

Exactly, Glenners.
On OFAH, if I had to watch one of the pool C candidates, I would choose that. Great character acting (especially Trigger) that went on too long.
Which reminds me, Drop The Dead Donkey?

TRO Todd and alligator dodger
'Let's see your two pair then Del' 'I've a pair of aces.....and another pair of aces' 'F-f-FOUR!!' 'I didn't know you could count Boycey...'
OFAH did stray off piste into soap territory in later series, and it was a disaster after they got rich but it was a great sitcom IMO, quality of the supporting characters especially good.
Not top 4/superdeath good, but worthier than the rest of the filth in that pool...

The office politics of the original Reggie Perrin, particularly in the book, is astonishingly current

David Nobbs is one of our greatest writers, imo.
