For info for the good citizens of the thread, I could be staying in a real live crap American town in a couple of weeks. Mount Carmel Junction.

Last recorded census: pop 586, with the only attractions listed a 'historic rock church' and the highway that runs though the town.

Is this crap enough to qualify?

Hang on though. Mount Carmel Junction has The Belly Of The Dragon trailhead just down the road...and who doesn't like a Rock Church, AC/DC might be playing.....

Good point, aware of some impressive hiking etc in the area - but assuming Grep's 'crap town' rules mean we ignore any nearby attractions and judge just the town itself.

I regret not choosing Mount Carmel itself, pop 158, nearby. I reckon pop 100-200 is the sweet spot for crap american towns.
