I agree with you Linds in that Julie M expected all her readers to have different interpretations. I need to re read this at some stage but not right now

Capricia - indeed, you don't want to read this thread until after you've read the book!

LindsD - yes, I did enjoy it... Well, maybe "enjoy" is not the word... I'm glad I read it.

Yes, I think that's how I feel, too. I got The Quickening by her out of the library because they didn't have any of the other book club books. I'll report back.

One of the things that puzzled me was that Izzie and Simon and children live in Camomile Street. In my A to Z there's only one Camomile Street in London, but that is very near the whole area where the book is set, - St. Paul's, and "the building" and that. It can't possibly be a residential area, - yet they clearly do live in a residential area, their garden is described, and some of the neighbours.

Oh I just assumed it was made up. I didn't look it up. There are residential areas in the oddest places in London, though not much in the City, it's true.

Rotj - you've changed your name. To something sci-fi. I am a big ol' nerd, so I get it!

I have changed my name. :) RotJ related to my maiden name and as I got married in the summer I thought I should change to something a bit more up to date and my friends and I have been through a bit of a BSG phase recently :)

Halfway through the book now. No judgements yet, but its odd. And sad.

I finished this last night and left with a feeling of being underwhelmed and let down.

I found the start very hard as you had no context set whatsoever and you were wondering and guessing at what happened. The story started to come to life when the children came on scene, but there were so many unanswered questions. How did they get there, how were they not noticed, how did they feed themselves.

The real interest was grabbed when the reality of the story started and the other bits and pieces sometimes tied together, while other bits didnt. Thejumping between what happened in the house and other event was quite disruptive of the flow. I need things in the right order not all over thge place

Did she ever live in the office block ? If not what was that all about and where did it fit in

I like a good mystery, but I also like the answers at the end and while I am sure theauthor wants us to speculate, that for me doesnt make for a fulfilling read

Dont think I would read another by this author, but I did score it a 6 as I found myself keen to read on in the 2nd half of the book to see what happened - just I sadly didnt totally find out.

That's a little bit how I felt on my first reading, Bazo. It's better with a second reading (but I get the feeling you won't want to read it again).
