Question: I am stuck with my reading. I have the (bloody awful) Splinter of the Mind's Eye Star Wars book on the go - thanks Badger and McG and also a non-fiction that is really good, but just not relaxing.
Is this month's book going to help or just make things worse?

Yikes I don't think I *recommended* that Star wars book...
This month's book I really enjoyed but it is made up of five varyingly/slightly fictionalised tales from the dark side of science.

I am looking forward to the months choice just gone but still on infinite jest and not reading much, potentially not coincidentally. I’m often enjoying it but i can’t read too much in one go. I did read Caitlin Moran “more than a woman” which had three strong chapters and an irritating premise

I didn't mean that you did, McG. I know you didn't. I just wasn't aware of its existence before. It's my own fault but it's so awful I just have to see it through to the end. Even though it makes me nauseous on so many levels.
I have this month's book on my Kindle that I just need to liberate from LittleD. I may start it tonight.

That’s one of the Alan Dean Foster Star Wars novels isn’t it? I think my copy got culled in the move. Some of the cash in expanded universe books were awful, but some were okay. I always liked the Han Solo ones myself.

ADF was always a bit of a tie-in book for hire kind of writer. He's done Aliens books etc

Quite nice work if you can get it, I imagine. Although it must feel a bit like writing by numbers after a while.

There are always differences from the films too as he gets to write from an earlier script. e.g. there were things in the Aliens novelisation that weren't in the film... until the director's cut came out.
*Points at self and shouts NERRRDDDD!!!*

Here’s weird. WWCTUTW starts with a story which is the background to the plot of the aforementioned 61 hours.
See? Educational is Jack Reacher.
And quite tall.
