Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I hope Westmoors doesn't feel too tarnished by following H-R as my next choice!

For me, H-R was an entertaining read, but had the faults pointed out by many others on here, it was less a novel than an idea for a distopian state of affairs fleshed out to the point that it was saleable as a novel, hence the lack of decent characters.

I think the oddly jarring thing about H-R was the enormous pile of Americanisms (parking-lot, elevator etc) which seemed to me to be an attempt to increase its saleability to US readers.

I know I dont post here often (but I do read the thread and read a few of the chosen books) but I am starting to feel like the kid thats always picked last when teams were selected for PE at school :-(

I started a fascinating book at the weekend and its all about the lives of the Jack the Ripper victims before they became his victims. It is giving me a real insight into the way of life back in victorian times and is quite an eye opener. It made me realise my moaning that I had to return to work today after 2 weeks off isnt actually all that bad.

Baz, please don't feel overlooked. I had a spell like that when I went (what felt like) nearly two years before being picked (early on one phase and near last on the next). Even McG is being cruelly ignored.

It's coz everyone knows I'll pick a Dan Brown.

Please don't feel left out Baz - we have 16 people on the choosers list now (and more that have dropped in and out). It can feel like a long time til your turn comes round again.

was only joking ;-)

I was last to be picked last time which actually means the person who picked me had no choice !!!

Surely though I am better at rounders than McGoohan and will get picked before him :)
