Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I love Conversations with Friends (thanks to Sharkie)
Am also going to have to wait for her new one to come out in paperback.

Still on Wise Children.

Looked in the Waterloo NoLongerBinterstonesNotQuiteWaterstones at a number of books including the Sally Rooneys, an Ali Smith, and the new Robert Galbraith Cormoran Strike book. Jo Rowling doesn’t do short books does she?

I finished Wise Children last night and will soon comment on discussion thread...

I am currently reading Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" which is stylish/dark-verging-on-nihilistic but somewhat lacking in substance so far...

also coming to the end of Sigrid Undset's "Kristin Lavransdatter" trilogy which is an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE.

Ooh Daz, there's a recommendation. In which translation are you reading it?

re Kristin Lavransdatter
I read the first book in the old Archer and Scott translation
and the other two in the new Nunnally
and thought they were both excellent
(the older versions are cheaper to buy though!)

Yesterday I finished My Brilliant Friend, today Reservoir 13. Of the two I preferred R13, a much more subtle and believable work, though why I am comparing them I’m ot sure. I guess because I read them together and because they do both feature the development of a group of children through adolescence, although the scope of McGregor’s novel is much wider than that.

Next up: Wizz Kids
