ZP I think racedrone is about half the cost of open tracking. OS maps is an upgrade but only about a couple of quid. The difference that I suspect you will see is level of coverage and consequentially update. OT have done a lot of work refining their technology and with roaming SIMs they only tend to lose their signal for any length of time in very way out places. Not sure what racedrone use for SIMs but my perception is that you get a lot more black spots. The user interface for observers etc. is not as refined but it depends what your needs are? Open Tracking appear to be looking at the market of supporting big commercial events (eg Spine, DB etc) and providing a glossy service to spectators. If all you want is something simple that friends/family can track you primarily for safety reasons with. OT you're going to end up paying for bell's and whistles you probably don't really need.

Well, both trackers are still off. Tracker #1's last contact was just before midnight below the Three Shires Stone. If he's going for around 12 hours of rest and then a short day (perhaps to Hardknott?), it is possible that he's hoping for better conditions this afternoon ...

I don't think they can get the van up Hard Knott or Wrynose which is why he came to the van last night and the original meeting place for yesterday was Seathwaite. Which means he needs to get to Seathwaite once he goes but he's now in a position where even that will be after dark. I wonder if there are some difficult conversations being had about how long realistically this is going to take and what that means with respect to stuff like van hire, his parents other commitments etc. I suspect all original plans, commitments assumed life returned to normal early next week, if not on Monday.

ff, yeah - just for safety and to give my wife some peace of mind. If the coverage isn’t as good with other providers (how could you know without trying?), it probably makes more sense for me just to pay a bit more for the safer option and go with OT.

I can’t imagine his Dad was too pleased stuck in Duddon Valley for hours last night with no clue what was going on. Pretty stressful with the weather as it is.

According to the UKC forum he is in the pie shop in Broughton. Probably the most sensible thing he could do
