Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

STOOSH
Finished my last 5m early doors and looking forward to an easier week of running. My legs are done in!!

I'm considering the Lakeland 100 virtual race but I was supposed to be running it anyway plus I'll be down there on holiday just in time to finish on the Saturday morning with a run from ambleside to conniston should I choose.

My problem is finding enough time to run an avg of 15m per day whilst juggling work and childcare!

Well done Stoosh!
Must admit I'm glad not to have to go out today though I've just done a Zoom PT session so will ache in different places tomorrow! I'd put these on hold last week as I didn't think I could do both.

Mrs S please do not mention anymore virtual ultras as I appear to be signed up for both Lakeland and RTTS now! :-O

Haha don't know about that as I will be walking most of it but MaltDrinker is thinking of doing some sort of challenge in July so I may run with him for some of it. Running is so hard for me just now so I prefer company and he is quite happy to plod along beside me for some of his runs :)

Well done everyone on your awesomeness with the vwhw race! I really enjoyed it by not worrying about the time at all and concentrating on good runs, which I tried to map onto the actual route. So only day one fetured tarmac, and I got hills to match the climbs over Conic Hill and out of KLL (sort of).

As a wee bonus, I realised today that I'd previously entered the Scottish Athletics virtual hill race. 30 minutes of hill reps, returning to the start point, maximum climb allowed 100 metres (since some runners are in flattish urban areas. Went for the RSPB Vane Farm trails south of Loch Leven and ended up glad that yesterday had been a rest day. Ooft! Need a rest now.

Well done _andy!

What I don't get about the Great Glen virtual race is why they are imposing a time cut off? I understand the point of cut offs for safety reasons in actual races, but why in virtual? I think it would put people off who would walk it.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
