Lovely pics. Leg 2 done - but our team of 5 is now down to 3, after middle child sprained his ankle today (taking sibling rivalry too far I think, though oldest's broken ankle is improving rapidly now).

Great chat and pics in the FB group. Wish it was a bit easier to snap a pic and include it here - I found my blue WHW (modern style) tech t-shirt in drawer yesterday too. Forgot I had that one. Wish they all had years on them like the buffs. I can never remember which year is which! :-) G

Our team has set a new challenge - we had done 105 miles by Tue, so because we were "finished" we've decided to add a bit on. Adding on the 90 miles that support runners *could* have run with their runner. So 185 is the new target.

We'll be on about 145 by tonight, so to get our 30 miles tomorrow we're doing to do a socially distanced runner + support 13.3 miles each to get to the 95 + 2 x 40 mile support new "finish line" - tomorrow morning 8am start. Finish by 12 Sat!

Prize giving on Sunday?! I'll miss that event, it's fab. Is there anything planned in the FB like a Zoom or anything for virtual prize giving? Mrs s, you'll know?! :-) G

That's a cool thing to do 🙂G.

The evening thing is tomorrow night. Which is a bit weird cos lots of folk won't be finished by then. I reckon it's so they can party without worrying about work the next day.

Perfect. Oh, yes, weird, unless Sat is the new Sun? I did think Sat was cut off cos we started on Fri last week, not on Sat morning. But no matter either way. Hope to join in the FB thing for a bit. :-) G

I hope the cut off is Sunday at noon because I think I'll need that morning to do more miles!

That's me at Glencoe. Going for another run tonight.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
