Yip, Glencoe is at 71 miles. You can see the ski lifts and smell the chips 😀

I plan to finish some time Sunday morning. It seems rude to complete quicker.*

*Just my opinion, others are available.

I'm with you Fenners, I want to run a bit every day to make it go on for as long as possible. I'm loving it.

I've enjoyed this so much I'm going to sign up for the Lakeland virtual race. Just have to decide between the 50 and the 105 miles.

Nice one Mrs S.

To be honest I've entered the 100 (and 5) and it bloody scares me. My only saving grace is that I'm on holiday on Thursday and Friday. They are going to be big days.

As you say each to their own, but I feel I'm pushing it expecting to run day after day without breaking myself. My biggest week for months was 40 miles before this week.

I'm also tempted by the Lakeland virtual race, but there is a slim possibility that Round the Rock might be going ahead 8th August - might be cutting it a little fine.

I have a similar dilemma with the Lakeland 50/100 - Solway Coast marathon is scheduled for 26th July and hasn't formally been cancelled yet.

This challenge is continuing to be enjoyable and the Lakeland event could well be too but, for me, any virtual challenge is going to come up second best if the alternative is a real race with real people somewhere I haven't been before.

Cool DQ!
All my real life races are cancelled unfortunately. I think I might enter the 105. We'll have to start a new thread if there isn't one already

After too much work yesterday, and being persuaded to cut grass (it needed it after all the recent wet days) in the schorchio afternoon, I finally headed out after dinner yesterday evening. Ten more miles on steep forest trails (1330ft of ups and downs in there, including a 1400ft hill for Jelly babies). Amazing pink/orange sunset at 10pm - the only photo I took.

So now at 66 miles and the midgies are terrible, loads of bites (actually, had dozens and dozens of them in the bedroom last night since *someone* left the windows open a bit after I'd shut them earlier :-( )

I've had one bite _andy so I think I've been lucky. Certainly not missing the midgies we normally get at the real race.

That's me at Bridge of Orchy. Looking forward to my jelly babies with wkp later on.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
