The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
There was a short video in one of my eguitar magazines today. David Gilmour was talking about & playing some of the guitars that he's putting up for auction, with all the proceeds going to charity. The video clip is also on youtube I notice.
Of special interest, well, to me anyway, is the famous Fender Stratocaster with the serial number 0001. That should fetch a small fortune. Another guitar up for auction is a rather lovely 12 string Martin.
In my humble opinion, it would be a crying shame if some rich guitar collector got them & then just hung them on his lounge wall. Or heaven forbid, Planet Rock got their hands on them & stuck them in a glass case.
I tead that the Strat has a ridiculously low pre sale estimate, not that I think it will go for any less than Clapton guitars sold when he set up the Crossroads project.
I’d say no they don’t sound better than new ones of the same spec. However, if they have been customised to a users spec, they will sound different, and the difference would be a personal view as to whether it is better. Acoustic guitars, violins etc tend to “improve” tone with age as the wood becomes more resonant.
Makes sense ER. I've never been entirely convinced that the wood in the body could make any difference to an electric guitar. Which sound rational position didn't stop me buying a Telecaster '72 Thinline, because it looked nice.
The type of wood an electric guitar is made from will affect the overall tone, resonance and sustain but because of the thickness of the wood it’s unlikely to “mature” in the the same way that the thinner woods used in an acoustic instrument do.
