Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Run 4 the Kids 2013 - 15km

This was never intended to be a race race, more the opportunity to meet and run with a visiting WJ (Photo on WJ facebook page.)

Early start leaving home at 6am to get to the city before the roads closed, Mick dropping me off and heading off to park leaving me to my preps. Found Tony and son Simon with ease (those yellow vest sure do stand out in a crowd) and after bag drop off headed to the yellow zone start. Staggered start and we trundled off alongside the Yarra River before heading into the Domain tunnel at 1k where I lost satellite signal. 2 very noisy and very hot kms later we exited up an incline and on our way along the Westgate Freeway to Bolte Bridge. The sun had come out at this point and proved a bit too much for Tony so we had a sneaky walk up the long drag of an incline looking at the fantastic views of the port on one side and across the city on the other. What goes up must go down and a lovely long downhill took us into the Waterfront past my Yacht (I wish) and back into the main city street. Another walk up the incline of Collins Street and then down to the trendy Southbank alongside the river and back into the park to finish.

Post finish line, almost tripped over a foolish young man who had got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend who luckily accepted as they were being filmed for the TV coverage to be shown tonight.

Fab to meet Tony and his family and lovely to run with a WJ again, I talked at him all the way round with 7 months worth of stored up chit chat. Felt great at the end and probably should have done another 5k as I was supposed to do 20km long run this week but the gourmet burger van was calling so will go out harder tomorrow instead. Pleased that I coped fine with the heat and so that can't be an excuse for not achieving target in a fortnight.

No goody bag or momento as it was a charitable event but did manage to obtain free sweatbands and two boxes of lunchbox bags of fruit which hadn't been distributed by end of the event. I'm not proud - like to get my moneys worth! Well organised race, lots of water stations and good post run race village.

NB. And Tony got on the TV as he was in the background of the marriage proposal. WJ really are taking over the world!
