Notes & Comments

Thorney 5m. Always like to do this race, though it's an unpredictable course - theoretically fast as it's flat, but there are two hairpin turns and always a headwind at some point. Today it was for most of the last 3 miles. :-( Had 3 targets today, depending on how it went:
Inside 40 mins - should have been able to do this comfortably given recent training
Inside 39 mins - if things went pretty well
Inside 38.30 mins - if I rediscovered my racing confidence and things clicked on the day.

Am reasonably pleased, as it was touch and go whether this would be LHR day or not. It was, as it turned out, so things could have been a whole lot uglier! First mile was a bit quick - felt very easy at the time and felt good through the second mile, but couldn't build on the start. The wind was strong enough to take a few seconds per mile off the pace (maybe between 5 and 10, based on training experiences), so although the pace kept dropping throughout the race, I was actually keeping up the work rate and pushing on. Trapped a nerve in my back at about 4m and it was then painful to breathe (similar to one of my aborted parkruns back in the spring) and felt a band tightening round my solar plexus, which was a bit distracting, but I managed to keep pushing on to the finish.

What with LHR issues and the wind, I think this probably equates to a sub-39 minute time, so shouldn't be too disappointed.

Well done, that is really strong consistent running.

Thanks. Am a bit disappointed to tell the truth, but I couldn't have done more yesterday.
