Notes & Comments

Well chuffed with this :-) A very rolling/quite undulating course out in the countryside along roads and country lanes. Second half particularly had long inclines but some nice downs to enjoy too.

Headed to Abbotts Bromley with the kids (just the 3 of us) as the event had a 2.1M fun run which took place 15mins after the main 10k started. Thought this would be ideal for the kids as they have been increasingly mature and responsible lately and I knew I could trust them to hang about for 15 mins at the beginning and end of their run. Was comforted by the fact it was taking place in a rather lovely local village in the middle of nowhere and upon arrival, chatting with marshalls, seeing the route for the fun run, the 'type' of people organising and taking part and the security of the start and finish (a school playing field with only one entrance in and out which was the race route itself) there was no doubt in my mind I could leave the kids whilst I ran.

So we entered, bought some lovely homemade cakes for when we finished and put our coats into storage. Felt like complete role reversal as the kids waved goodbye to me as I was ushered out of the school grounds onto the road where the race was to start. They stood smiling and waving as I edged away not wanting to leave them and they picked up on that and were laughing at me :-)

The route was lovely and all on road and country lanes. Beautiful area and quite a rolling/undulating course. On the whole I felt great. Was powered on by how great I felt compared to the 10k I ran the other week. Legs felt stronger and had much more spring in my stride. Due the type of race it was (a school charity fun run) there were plenty of 'fun runners' and I knew I was doing ok as a female (kids think I was 5th). Second half was defo tougher than first so was very pleased to only be seconds slower (timed it as 2 x 5km again so I could compare to the 10 in Stratford).

Kids had great fun too. Cavan did quite well and made a friend who he ran with and Brodie enjoyed it too and was so glad not to be last, which she was fearing. They both cheered me on as I climbed the final hill to the school grounds and then ran with me to the finish line. Brodie had picked up the coats out of storage and was all organised and very much in charge of the situation :-) Love her.

Very much looking forward to the results. All picked up a medal and a rather nifty sports drinking bottle. :-)
