Well, where did that come from, over 2 minutes off PB. Didn't think I had a chance of sub 50 as felt sluggish in warm up. Tried different tactics of starting faster and hanging on, and the 6th mile split shows I was just hanging in there. Mostly flat, 3 lap course of Victoria Park in Hackney, through trees - a little like the Parkrun, but on tarmac - a quick course. Good conditions, cool, dry, a little wind at a couple of points. Was worried about time initially, when Garmin measured short, but there were sharp corners that saved time (v. measured length, which was not always the racing line) and after looking at Garmin graph it showed a few spikes - maybe affected by trees. Really had to work hard today and went through 5k at close to 5k PB pace. I am sure with more strength work, I can keep the pace I had at the start. As an RNLI organised event no official results, so I will have to replicate it at the Cambridge and Cambourne 10k in April.
