Notes & Comments

Well that was rather wonderful! A last minute entry 10 days before, with no ultras or ultra training for 4 years, it was always going to be a bit of toughie! But was completely worth it to enjoy the wonderful route and scenery, to see all the ultra dafties again, and most of all to say thanks and hi and goodbye to Lintie and Dod! First 30 odd miles were fine, but last 20 was a struggle. No sh*t Sherlock! We were so lucky with weather too. It's been saying rain and even snow for days. The last torrential rain was on the Friday night and the whole of Saturday was glorious. Cold about 4C at the start, same at the end and a couple of hail showers, but sun pretty much all through the day and max 12C? And what a beautiful route - starts with mountains and snow, then fields, woods, bogs, rivers and back up to the big hills to finish. 6000ft of climb total? Absolutely glorious. Had some great chat with Jodie, who is doing WHW. And Allan P from Harmeny. And Jeni R-J. All of whom overtook me! And Mike from Aberdeen doing his first ultra who was going great and pulled on to finish with Minty. And Red Wine Runner. Actually all these overtook me! So, overall 64th out of 84 finishers. But 18 DNFs, so 102 starters. And 20 or 30 DNSs, so could say 64th out of 130 and call it half way?! :-) G
