Russell M First ever mountain marathon and what an introduction it was! Blistering heat, nearly 42km of trekking and c.3000m of ascent. Once again, rather unsurprisingly given the nature of the race, my knee started giving me problems after about the first hour and that really limited my contouring and descending - coming down off the second Munro of the day took the best part of 90 minutes. Had to bail out of the C class after day one and took the easiest possible route back from the midway camp to the event centre, although this was still a 15km trek taking around 3 1/2 hours. I've now realised that the fitness built up for road marathons does not translate to the hills, if I'm ever going to do another MM I'll need to get some practice in the places where it matters most - the hills.
