Ellioski Standing in a wet muddy patch and slipping over and onto your arse is not best practice when it comes to starting races. Spectators must have thought the starting gun had got me as I went arse over tit off the line and ended up rolling around on the grass, much to everyone's amusement. So, leeping up like a startled gazelle, still not quite sure what the hell just happened, I honed in on the backmarkers and started to make my way through the field. It was tough going, especially on the sections where we were heading into the wind, and I knew I had my work cut out. I started regretting the hours swimming I did before the race as my legs were feeling a bit tired. My breathing was scarily noisy as I struggled to get enough oxygen into my lungs. However, I was passing runners regularly and was never passed myself, but then starting from the back probably explains that. With 400m to go I didn't think I had a hope of beating my PB but I wasn't going to give in until it was impossible. With 100m to go I knew I had it and sprinted to the line like a man possessed. In the end 18:10 (my watch, not official time) wasn't bad considering I began horizontal. PB achieved, Bets won, everyones happy. ;)
