Boots *Preview* I am hoping to make an improvement on last years time of 36:54. I went off a bit too fast last year, and the steady climb for the first 3 km proved a bit too much and I died. Managed to pick it back up though for the last 3km which is downhill. I've went on holiday to fairford at christmas and ran the course in 42 mins with a cold so I should be able to race this year a lot more tactically, with more knowledge of the course. I've improved my 5 mile PB to 28:03 on New Years Day aswell. *Report* The best road race I've ever produced! Went off steadily, as I didn't want to have a repeat of the recent May Day 5 when I did the first mile in 5:15. My pace was very consistant throughout. I began in about 7th position, slowly progressed into 5th before the end of the first KM. Worked with 4th place and then dropped him by 4KM. Maintained a 3:30 per KM pace and went through 5KM in 17:27, practically spot on. First 3 were well clear on me, perhaps 200 metres behind 3rd. However 3rd place was tiring and I managed to maintain a pace close to 3:30 and eventually caught him around about 7KM. He tried to keep with me but I managed to drop him by 8KM. I was really tired going into the 9th KM and my pace had slowed dramatically, however I managed to maintain 3rd position and finished in 35:11. with a huge applause which I rarely receive!
