Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

april_runner BEAT PB BY OVER TWO AND A HALF MINUTES!

My second-ever 10k and the long flat out-and-back new road (the Barford Bypass is opening in Autumn 2006) was ideal for beating my PB. It was good to have such stable, flat terrain and I felt strong - although definitely felt myself tiring in the last three kilometres. The only downsides of the route were: 1) slowing down a lot to turn around at about 4.5 - 4.75km and 2) the wind on the way back. The wind had not been an issue at all for the first 5k, but as soon as we turned to head home it was a lot harder to keep pushing forward - I guess it's the price you pay for a virtually flat course. My fiance counted me 10th in the women and about 35th out of the whole group. I picked off more people than I have before in races, and did my fastest split at the end to beat a Bedford Harrier :) The race was well-organised, but a bit boring for spectators. I would have appreciated someone holding out some water for me at the drinks station, because it doesn't help your time when you have to look for a cup that actually has fluid in it and then pick it up yourself! I really must improve my technique of taking in water...I seem to chuck most of it down my front! Overall, a good race and I was happy to get a PB and even get one for my 5K (24:08)...although I can't really put that down.

Lieutenant Lucerne A truly one-off event. First 5k was downhill and I managed a quick time, after turning round it was uphill into a strong breeze. Slowed a bit but still finished with a PB, which was unexpected
