Debstir Swim - 400metres, Cycle - 6miles (hilly?), Run - 3miles.
Nearly didn't do this - I got there in time but had stressed myself out so much I just wanted to go home. I didn't though and before I knew it I was lining up with the others in my heat at the pool (1st (slowest) heat). I was first to go in my lane and caught up with two about halfway through the swim, and caught up with the last one on my last length. First out the pool! Swim - 9:53mins.
My cycle shoes were in the corridor as it was quite a way to the bike so I got my socks & shoes on, teetered to my bike, helmet on, gloves on, had a wee laugh with the marshall and offski. T1 - 1:42mins.
The first 1.5 / 2m of the cycle route was uphill - ouch! managed ok, drank most of my energy drink on the climb. The flat & downhill weren't any easier as the road surface was horrendous, thought I had punctured at one point so didn't push it as much as I could have, but wanted to leave something in my legs for the run. Cycle - 24:16mins.
Couldn't get my bike racked as the pole was really high up and there were still a lot of bikes in. Shoes off, trainers on (laces already tied), helmet & gloves off and byeee! T2 - 0:43mins.
Legs weren't too bad, didn't have jelly-legs but they were quite tired. Thankfully the start of the run was gradually downhill & flat. I was overtaken about 1m and no way could I have kept up; this lady was flying! Mile 2 and it started to climb, nothing awful but after the cycle my legs were tired. The last 1/2m was slightly downhill again and I even managed a half sprint and a smile at the finish! Run - 25:24mins. Total time - 1hour 2 mins.
In the end I really enjoyed this but I wasn't in the right frame of mind at the start - I was having a 'hormona'l day and everything was annoying me / stressing me out. I was in tears racking my bike because I just did not want to be there and didn't have a clue what I was doing (although I've already done a tri - it's amazing how they differ from one race to the next). I'm not sure I'll ever be able to compete in an Olympic distance, never mind a middle distance like I think I've been talked in to - sprints & super-sprints seem to suit me fine! We'll see...

toepointer Another 3rd in a triathlon, after being my customary last out of my swim heat (thought I think 7.35 for 400m is not that shabby), then got lost and ran a circle of the pool, asking where to go (there was no-one to follow by this time). Just short of the fastest bike, so am claiming fastest bike anyway as wasted at least 40s being lost. Then thought I would blast the run again but only moved up 2 places into3rd and despite efforts could not encourage legs to go any faster in present state of new tiredness from actually racing again and unfitness. Got an absoutely huge bunch of flowers for 3rd. place, very fancy, and a nice day out. I am SO aggressive on the bike though, it seems to work better for me with minimal bike training and racing and then only races with short bike sections.
