Gobi just got a glimpse of what it's like at the shallow end I aspire to the heady days of my 25 hour training months....

I try (not particularly hard) to cap my training at 25 (30 at a pinch) hours a month. It just works for me [and neither Sue nor the PoD give me too much grief over it]. I'm above all a lifestyle athlete. I love to race, but the pointy end isn't where I live or even aspire to live. Fortunately crit racing provides an opportunity to race against other bottom feeders - 'best of the worst' it could be dismissed as but it's good honest and competitive all the same.

The only event where I come close to the pointy end is the club handicap races. And I've only won that once. Oh, and the pot luck pairs, where you have to predict your time over a measured course*, then get randomly paired up and actual times for each pair is compared against estimates (still with me?). I won that 3 years in a row.

Scribs- I will have done 66hrs nearly this month
Near 700 miles on the bike and near 200 running.
Safe to say my shallow pool has a lot of depth.
I could train more I think I did a 91hr month in the past. Was just surprised as TRO HAS been ill.

I have no volume targets, it falls as it does. December was 90+ hrs, Jan would have been the same without the 4 days ill.
It requires having no life, understanding OH, a well equipped work gym and doing most stuff indoors which cuts a lot of faff.
I know plenty of people for who training 30 hours is a bigger challenge in their lives than doing 90 in mine.

Indeed TRO - i do function on a predicted 2hrs a day which seems to cover my racing needs. Like you I can find more time if I want.

I happily accept that my interest in doing other things, as well as working and maintaining a decent relationship with my OH limits my training capacity. It's why I'm happy being a tiddler. Need to work on my bum in saddle time though.
I do wonder how you lot manage it sometimes.
