That lovely bench that Fleecy found near Ryde (the one with the poppies) I now see from our local FB page is one of many (or several, I don't know the number) located around the country. There's also another in the same style, with the silhouette of a soldier in the metalwork. Nice idea as a permanent memorial, I think.

Slightly off on a tangent - this is from an exhibition of Thonet bentwood chairs and benches we saw today. You could walk one side of the screen to examine the pieces themselves and on the other side, you could just see their silhouettes. I thought it was a very creative wayto display them and their lovely shapes.
