:)

There were so many families enjoying the RSPB site today I'm surprised I saw or heard anything. It's lovely to see youngsters of 5 or 6 with borrowed bins :)

Now that sounds fantastic

We had a school teacher Mr Kitchen when I was seven or eight who ran the YOC and got me into bird watching. He wore tweed jackets and knit ties and was a wonderful man. I often think about him

I found this which I’ve posted before but forgotten. I think it’s better than my previous picture on the same theme

We've got a single jay as a regular bac garden visitor again this spring - haven't worked out whether it's the same one as last summer yet.

Fewer birds on the ground in the garden than last year so far - possibly because squirrels are *everywhere* this year!

Thanks in part to DT's id posters managed to correctly identify my first swallow and first sand martin of the season. Really pleased, especially to see a swallow so early, but seeing the chart yesterday really made me gave a good look and was shocked to realise it was an early swallow.

Still on the lookout for housemartins that I usually see first.

On a more gruesome note, saw a greater black backed gull takeout a pigeon. Second time I've seen this in the same spot, but not for a couple of years. Amazing to see.

First nuthatch of the year. Saw something else flitting close to it, maybe its mate; but it disappeared too quickly.

J2R, Willow Warblers seem to be already more widespread this Spring. Same here, have seen them regularly in places where they've been absent in recent years.
My first Common Sandpiper of the year while out running, three Great Crested Grebes, plus " usual" Willow Warblers, Chiffs, Blackcaps and of course, Cettis. Whitethroat soon!

It's a shame I'm unable to identify many bird calls apart from chiffchaffs, stonechats and a few others.
