This current cold spell has me wishing my life away but I love seeing and hearing swift too. The absolute definition of a bird for me

Sparrowhawk over the garden twice just now. On cruise control rather than full hunt mode but still an awesome bird.
DT, I love swifts too. Real fighter pilots. A couple of years ago I head a lot of them at the end of February, investigated and found a local business has swift boxes set up (I knew about them) and was playing their calls to let them know where to go. I think it was probably at least a good 8 weeks early.
Non birders probably wondered at why I was wandering aimlessly down an alley looking at the sky.

I saw a wagtail in the park this morning. My brain was yelling "yellow" as it was such a bright colour against the dull surroundings, but I think it's a grey wagtail

Grey is correct. Really handsome bird

A male yellow looks like a canary; it’s seriously bright. I’ve seen a few around early May time in the Dales; invariably by water

First calling chiffchaff today, also house martins and whooper swans. All within 2 minutes of each other.

I saw a pair of collared doves canoodling on a fence just now.
The rookery corvids are making a racket... I have a feeling they want to move in next!

There's an old drainage channel I run along by the mersey, had a grey wagtail lead me along the whole length of it today, was pretty cool experience.

Barn owl flying along the hedge ahead of me on my run. Was around for 4/5 mins. About 100metres after it turned away, a sparrowhawk then flew out across my path.
