Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Derby T...suppose it's down to sixty years of counting flocks since I was ten! Of course there's a margin of error when some flocks are about 1,500 but it's about counting that "hundred" quickly as they arrive and then placing that group into the flocks or using an imagined visual "grid" over the flocks. My woodie numbers are actually quite low compared to other observers in the locality. Nothing happening today really, just a small group of 100 overhead, the wind is not right.

Otter didn't return this morning so no better photos. However at the end of the walk, managed to snap some good pics of a red squirrel.

Then got some stunning pictures of red kites. Il try to put my favourite one up and one upside down.

Fabulous red kite picture there, Roberto!

A walk in an extended dunes area behind a beach today, with great views of stonechats, lovely little birds which are so often there. Meanwhile, back at home, our feeders are really getting popular. We have two sunflower heart feeders, two feeders with niger seeds, a peanut feeder and some fat balls, and at one point today there were birds on all of them at the same time - goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches, blue tits, great tits and a coal tit. A heartwarming sight!

That's a superb pic, Roberto! star

forgot about autumn watch.

saw an otter by the Eden in Carlisle this morning. Then I watched a grey squirrel and a magpie have a shout/standoff. The squirrel won, I think.

lots and lots of geese in huge skeins going over tonight.
